Kamps

Welcome.jpg (52483 bytes)

The original building and hallmark of Kathan Kamps is Homestead, the old farmhouse moved from the valley by Dudley Kathan.  Before the kitchen was updated, there was an old wood burning cook stove.  The house is furnished with many antiques which were original to the house.  Unfortunately, many more antiques have been lost through past off-season break-ins.

Next to Homestead is the barn, which now is used for storage.  It is also a great place for the bats of summer to live, and children love to try to count the bats which pour from the eaves of the barn at dusk!

ABC was originally a schoolhouse which was moved from the valley.  Of course, it is painted red!  There is even an ABC doghouse outside the kitchen door!

Pine was once a granary in the valley.

Hemlock is one of two original log cabins still standing.  Spruce is the other.  They are quite rustic inside with their exposed beams and open floor plans.

Balsam was one of the original log cabins, but it burned down several years ago.  It has since been replaced by another log cabin, more modern but still with a rustic flavor.

Manor was built by Dudley's son, Norman, for his family.  Norman and Marjorie and their 3 children spent summers on Manor hill overlooking the field.

Next to Manor is Dowling's.  This cabin has been leased by the Dowling family and their relatives for all of the cabin's existence.

Bobalew was built for Norman's first daughter, Bobbie, and her husband, Lew (thus the name!).  It has been changed a great deal over the years to accommodate their family and winterized in order for the family to enjoy all seasons.

Dorchet is next to Bobalew and on the path to the stepping stones.

Birches was built for Norman's son, "Pete", and his wife Penny.  It sits on an area populated by birch trees and is near the old beach and Cemetery Point.

The last cabin stands between Homestead and Birches.  It was built by Dorothy, Norman's second daughter, and is the cabin for her family.
